Homes for sale in Haverhill MA
Haverhill (pronounced “hay-vrill”) is a city in Essex County Massachusetts. It is home to over 58,000 residents and resides on the banks of the Merrimack Valley River. It was originally named Pentucket, meaning “place of the winding river” in Native American and was once a farming community that grew into an important industrial center. At one time, a tenth of the shoes manufactured in America was from Haverhill. The community was also home to tanneries, woolen mills, sawmills, gristmills, hat manufacturers, shipbuilders and served as a port.
Today, Haverhill has done a remarkable job of transforming old industrial buildings into loft apartments, condominiums, retail and commercial space. Large amounts of public and private investments have gone into the downtown area. Haverhill boasts many restaurants and shops, as well as a renovated boardwalk.
