Sitting between the border of New Hampshire and the Merrimack River, Methuen, Massachusetts is home to about 44,000 residents. It was first settled in 1642 as part of Haverhill, MA located just to the Northeast. Methuen became its own municipality in 1725.
Located just off Interstates 495 and 93, it doesn’t get much more convenient than Methuen for commuters! If traffic complies, you can be in Boston or at the ocean in under an hour, or hiking in Vermont in less than two hours! Although there is no direct train service from Boston, you can take the Lowell Line and easily transfer to a bus line.
Methuen is a place for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts – the town offers a bird sanctuary, a small state park, a town forest, and many ponds, brooks, and streams. The Methuen Rail Trail is a 2.4-mile trail in the place of an old railroad bed. The trail is suited for walking, running and cycling and goes right through the heart of town. The trail also connects with longer state bike trails.
Methuen is home to Presentation of Mary Academy, a private Catholic High School (originally for girls only, now co-ed) founded in 1952. Another claim to fame is being the home of Susie Castillo – Miss Massachusetts and Miss USA in 2003!
